Global and complex environment risk
Country risk, duty of care and operating posture for organisations that cannot simply leave. Written for the situation where withdrawal is the advice you have already rejected.
Directors who have run security in environments where the nearest support was hours away and the standard playbook did not apply.
Most country risk advice is written for a traveller.
It assumes the reader can defer the trip, choose a different hotel, or leave. That advice is genuinely useful, and it is useless to an organisation with a plant, a contract and ninety local staff.
The harder question is how to keep operating at an acceptable level of risk when whether to be there at all has already been settled by somebody else. That means posture, thresholds and decision points, not a colour-coded map.
It also means a duty of care position that would survive scrutiny. If something happens, the question will be what you knew, when you knew it, and what you did about it.
Four stages.
Named deliverables, not outcomes language.
Country and site risk assessment for your specific footprint
Duty of care gap analysis against your legal and policy obligations
Operating posture with named escalation and de-escalation triggers
Crisis management and incident response plan, exercised at least once
Journey management and movement policy where the risk sits in transit
Local provider and partner assessment, vendor-neutral
The standard advice is to leave. That is not always available.

Who this is for.
Organisations with people, assets or contracts in environments where the risk is real and the exit is not simple: energy and extractives, infrastructure, NGOs and international development, universities with overseas programmes, and family offices with interests abroad.
